Wall Street leaders anticipate digital assets will account for 10% of post-trade market turnover within the next five years, according to Citi's Securities Services Evolution 2025 survey. This projection translates to roughly $2 trillion in daily trading volume as tokenized securities approach a critical adoption threshold. The findings are based on responses from 537 industry executives, with North American participants leading the bullish sentiment—expecting 14% digital turnover amid recent regulatory clarity.

Settlement infrastructure emerges as a focal point, with 85% of respondents prioritizing accelerated settlements, digital asset adoption, and automation. Traditional financial market infrastructures, which underpin 40% of global market capitalization, face disruption from zero-legacy "neobrokers" demanding round-the-clock crypto access. Stablecoins are identified as pivotal infrastructure for this transition, with bank-issued tokens poised to bridge traditional and decentralized finance.

The convergence retains traditional institutions as gatekeepers while harnessing DeFi's efficiency gains. Over half of surveyed executives expect existing financial market infrastructures to evolve significantly, driven by settlement innovation and institutional demand.
